Visconti Van Gogh Oiran ballpoint pen
Item no: KP12-22-BP
Visconti's new Van Gogh pen is the Oiran, named after the painting from 1887, which in our country is better known as “Courtesan.” Van Gogh painted the work during his Japonaiserie period, in which he drew inspiration from the art and culture of the Land of the Rising Sun.
Van Gogh based this painting on a print by the Japanese artist Kesai Eisen. In 1886, the print appeared on the cover of the magazine Paris illustré. Van Gogh copied and enlarged the Japanese lady using a grid. He used bright colors and strong outlines, as if it were a woodcut.
Colors were used for the pen that also appear in Van Gogh’s painting. The gold-colored details create a beautiful frame for the play of colors. The packaging of the pen is entirely in keeping with the style, with a tribute to the painting, which depicts a high-ranking courtesan.
