In 1966, the 2000 was designed for Lamy by Gerd A. Müller (perhaps best known for his Braun shaver), and reflected the post-war Bauhaus school in Ulm, Germany.
The holder and cap of the 2000 are made from a lightweight, durable fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate resin from Bayer, known as Makrolon. They have a brushed texture that resists fingerprints and dirt while providing a firm grip. The texture also helps to make the seams virtually invisible where the fill button and the tip piece unit attach to the barrel. The material also ages relatively well.
Lamy is an independent family business that was founded in 1930 by C. Josef Lamy, a former employee of Parker, in Heidelberg. The Lamy brand has existed since 1952 and demonstrated its innovative strength in the first year with the completely new Lamy 27 fountain pen series. And in 1966, the distinctive style of Lamy Design was born with the Lamy 2000.
