Aurora Optima Orange fountain pen
Item no: 946-RTF
Dreams of discovering unknown lands have always sparked human curiosity. Aurora celebrates this with a new limited edition collection called Ancient Maps.
An Ancient Map not only reveals the hope for discovery, the passion for exploration, but also indicates how the world has been delineated and unveiled, to what we know today. The collection will consist of five fountain pens, symbols of 5 Ancient Maps that represent a new world overcoming its boundaries by bringing further knowledge of civilization through new discoveries.
Aurora created a few new essential pendants for the Ancient Maps collection:
- An armilloscope, an observation instrument for explorers to orient themselves using the stars. This is reflected at the top of the cap.
- There is a new bottom designed that symbolizes the rose of the winds, a floating instrument from old maps.
- The clip, with the rings, reflects the movement of the sea and navigation.
Our journey through the old maps begins in the city of Alexandria in Egypt, home to the grandiose Library, where around 150 AD the geographer Claudio Ptolemy drew the first geographical map of the known world, using a grid of geometric lines corresponding to latitude and longitude. When Ptolemy's work first appeared in Europe, it caused a revolution in continental cartography. The traditional layout of medieval maps with the east at the top (from which the term orientation is derived) was replaced by the north-south axis, to which the modern cartographic grid was added that is still used today.
The Aurora Ancient Maps fountain pen features metal details made of sterling silver. It is limited to only 680 pieces worldwide and comes in a special gift box with a blue ink bottle. In the Aurora Ancient Maps limited edition collection, Aurora aims to engage the sense of touch: developing a special tactile relief sleeve where, with closed eyes, the stages of the explorers will be followed. This way, you can discover the routes of the ancient maps that marked the New World by touching them with your fingers.
The Aurora Ancient Maps fountain pen features an 18 kt gold nib with ebonite lining and has an internal piston filling system.
