Pelikan Souverän M1000 Pelikan Maki-e Ivy and Komon LE Fountain Pen (104/123)
Item no: 825832
Maki-e is a very complex Japanese lacquer technique known for its beauty and artistry. During this process, the rare Japanese lacquer Urushi is applied in a large number of layers to the fountain pen and repeatedly polished. The design is drawn on the surface with colored lacquer. This technique is called Togidashi-Maki-e. Additionally, the artist can mix charcoal powder and gold powder into the lacquer, so that the pattern of the design stands out above the surface: When you run your thumb over the painting, you can feel the difference. This is the so-called Taka-Maki-e technique. For the Pelikan fountain pen model "Ivy and Komon," the Maki-e artist has harmoniously combined both techniques. The limited edition "Ivy and Komon" features the climbing plant Ivy combined with Komon, a very beautiful and traditional pattern.
The ever-green climbing plant Ivy is often described in poems due to its shiny, beautiful autumn leaves and was often used as decoration to cover the outer walls of buildings. The so-called Komon is one of the traditional Japanese kimono patterns where the same pattern is repeatedly painted in the same direction. The maki-e fountain pen "Ivy and Komon" features a stunning orange ivy that covers the fountain pen, and in combination with the Komon patterns, it beautifully represents autumn. The model "Ivy and Komon" is a masterpiece with a finely chiseled 18-carat gold nib accented with a rhodium decor. Each pen is individually signed by the artist. The Maki-e fountain pen "Ivy and Komon" is launched in a limited edition of only 123 pieces worldwide. Each piece comes in an exclusive gift box made of traditional Japanese Paulownia wood.
With decades of experience, the famous model M1000 Souverän is made in Germany and decorated in Japan.
