The Platinum 3776 Century models are simply and classically designed. One point is fundamentally different with these Platinum 3776 Century models, and that is the way the pen closes. Platinum calls it their "Slip & Seal" mechanism. It comes down to the fact that the inner cap is freely rotating and spring-loaded within the cap sleeve. Around the nib and ink feed on the end of the shell, there is a rough edge, and it is there that the spring-loaded inner cap seals. Moreover, this inner cap closes tightly around the nib. This combination ensures that the pen hardly dries out.

Platinum claims that the pen, filled with ink, can be stored for a long time without drying out; we are talking not about weeks, but about a time span of no less than a year! An additional advantage is that the pen also behaves leak-proof in a pressure cabin (airplane).

The pen can be filled with cartridges (Platinum) or with the included converter. An additional advantage of the "Slip & Seal" mechanism is that it allows the use of more heavily pigmented inks. Platinum provides this type of ink, which is waterproof and lightfast. Platinum guarantees that it is safe to use these pigmented inks in the Platinum pens with the "Slip & Seal" mechanism. This type of ink is generally risky in "regular fountain pens" unless the pen is cleaned after each use.
