The Nakaya Cigar-Decapod Decapod Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen is crafted from ebonite finished with a brilliant Wajami urushi lacquer. This model is one of the most challenging variants to produce. Both the barrel and cap each have 10 facets that are also slightly twisted, making the repeated polishing of the flat strips a true art. Ebonite is a lightweight material, allowing the pen to be made slightly longer and thicker without becoming too heavy. Multiple transparent urushi layers are applied over the red base color, each dried and then polished. The more layers applied, the darker the final color of the pen will be. For this pen, this results in a beautiful dark brown lacquered pen, where in the sharper transitions the underlying, in this case, dark red layers become visible. The name refers to this; "Tame" means "pond" and refers to the transparency of the top layer, and "nuri" means "layer," which refers to the lacquering process.
The design of the pen is simple and understated, with no double rings but only a functional sturdy clip. The fountain pen is longer than usual and intended to be used without the cap on the back. (However, it is advised not to place the cap on the back of the holder to avoid damaging the beautiful urushi lacquer).
The pen nibs are 14 karat gold and can be ordered in different writing widths.

Like the pen, the packaging is also simple but neat and stylish. Each pen is packaged in a Paulownia wooden gift box, and the pen itself is in a small "kimono fabric" case. The fountain pen comes with a box of (Platinum) ink cartridges and a converter.
Orders
Nakaya fountain pens are made to order, with a delivery time ranging from three to about six months (or sometimes longer), but the pens are well worth the wait.
We have a small "iron stock" that we try to maintain. In addition, it is of course possible to order the pen from us with your specific preferences regarding the holder, urushi color, and nib.
