Sailor's Manyo ink series is named after 'Manyoshu', the 'Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves', the oldest and most revered anthology of poetry in Japan. It contains more than 4,000 poems written over a period of 400 years by people from all walks of life, from emperors to farmers. Flowers are particularly significant in Japanese culture, and 1,500 of the poems relate to them. Sailor therefore decided to name the Manyo inks after flowers mentioned in this epic, centuries-old collection of poems.
