The Montblanc Patron of Art Peggy Guggenheim fountain pen. This Montblanc Patron of the Art 2016 is a tribute to one of the most important art collectors and exhibitors of 20th-century art: Peggy Guggenheim.
Peggy Guggenheim was a wealthy American woman who met many artists in Paris and financially supported the artists whose works she also collected. She was married to the Franco-German painter Max Ernst between 1942 and 1946. Peggy Guggenheim lived in Palazzo Vernier dei Leoni until her death in 1979. After her death (in Padua), the Palazzo was opened to the public as a museum. In the last years of her life, she focused less on collecting and more on exhibiting her possessions.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Peggy Guggenheim limited edition is entirely in the Art Deco style; straight lines and sleek shapes adorn the barrel and cap. Lion heads on the cap band refer to the name of Peggy Guggenheim's Venetian palace, the Leoni, and to the lion of San Marco, the symbol of Venice.
The striking red twisted trim on the filler knob at the end of the barrel refers to the countless mooring poles that Venice is known for. On the 18-krt. nib, alongside the year of issue, are two paw prints in memory of her dogs, who were always by her side.
