Nakaya Neostandard Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen
The Nakaya Neostandard Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen is made of ebonite finished with a beautiful Wajami urishi lacquer. This "Neostandard" model is a nakaya model that was once made at the request of a non-Japanese customer. This sleek designed pen is now part of the permanent collection. Ebonite is a light material, so the pen can be made a little longer and thicker without it becoming too heavy. Several transparent urushi layers are applied over the dark brown base color, which are each time dried and then polished. The more coats applied, the darker the final pen color will be. With this pen this results in a beautiful almost black lacquered pen, whereby the underlying, in this case, dark brown layers become visible in the sharper transitions. The name refers to this; "Tame" means "pond" and refers to the transparency of the top coat and "nuri" means "layer" which refers to the painting process.
The design of the pen is simple and sober, no gold-plated rings, just a clip. The fountain pen is slightly longer than usual and intended to be used without a cap on the back. it is also not recommended to place the cap on the back of the container because of damage to the beautiful urushi paint.).
The nibs are 14 karat gold and can be ordered in different writing widths.
Japanese fountain pens almost always write seriously thinner than the European brands. As an indication, a Japanese medium nib corresponds to a fine European one.
Just like the pen, the packaging is simple but neat and stylish. Each pen is packed in a Paulownia wooden gift box, the pen itself comes in a small "kimono fabric" case. The fountain pen comes with a box of Platinum cartridges and a converter.r.
Nakaya fountain pens are made to order, delivery time varies from three to about six months, but the pens are well worth the wait.
We have a small "iron stock" that we will try to maintain. In addition, it is of course possible to order the pen with your specific preference regarding the holder, color urushi and nib from us.
