The Montblanc Patron of Art Peggy Guggenheim fountain pen. This 2016 Montblanc Patron of the Art is a tribute to one of the most important art collectors and exhibitors of 20th century art; Peggy Guggenheim.
Peggy Guggenheim was a wealthy American lady who met many artists in Paris and who financially supported the artists whose works she also collected. Between 1942 and 1946 she was married to the French-German painter Max Ernst. Peggy Guggenheim lived in the Palazzo Vernier dei Leoni until her death in 1979. The Palazzo was opened to the public as a museum after her death (in Padua). In the last years of her life she had focused less on collecting and more on exhibiting her possessions.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Peggy Guggenheim limited edition is entirely in the Art Deco style, straight lines and sleek shapes adorn the barrel and cap. The cap brim features lion heads, referring to the name of the Peggy Guggenheim Venetian Palace de Leoni and the lion of San Marco, the symbol of Venice.
The striking red twisted band on the fill button at the end of the holder refers to the countless mooring posts in Venice. On the 18 ct. nib, next to the year of issue are two paw prints in memory of her dogs that were always by her side.
